Identification Traceability and Inspection Planning: first article and inspection planning. This is part of chapter 23 of the NormaQMS User Guide.

First Article and Inspection Planning

Open: More > First Article & Inspection Planning. Typical preparers: Engineer and Quality Manager. Release authority: Quality Manager or administrator.

An inspection plan: one row per characteristic with requirement, method, equipment, sampling and classification.

  1. Create a plan with title, product reference, and revision. Add a configuration reference when applicable.
  2. Add each characteristic with its number, requirement, method, and classification. These identify what is checked and how.
  3. Include tolerance, equipment reference, sampling, and frequency where relevant. Sampling defaults to 100% when not otherwise supplied by the supported workflow.
  4. Use Major, Minor, or Key classification as appropriate to your defined system.
  5. Inspect the full characteristic list before release. At least one characteristic, a product reference, and a revision are required.
  6. The authorized user selects Release and confirms the released status.

A released plan defines the inspection. It is not itself a completed first-article report or a record of measured results. Record actual results in Production & Process Control or the controlled evidence required by your process. Characteristics cannot be quietly edited after release; use a new controlled plan or supported supersession process when the definition changes.
